North Canterbury, New Zealand

A place that shapes
every wine we make

Concentrated, textured, complex and expressive — the wines of North Canterbury reflect a region unlike any other. Cool nights, warm days, and free-draining soils conspire to produce fruit of exceptional character.

The land that
makes it possible

North Canterbury sits in the lee of the Southern Alps, where the Canterbury Plains meet the Waipara Valley. It's a region defined by contrast — warm, dry summers and cool nights that slow ripening and preserve natural acidity, giving wines their signature freshness and structure.

The free-draining gravelly soils push vines to dig deep, concentrating flavour and building complexity. These are not easy conditions — they demand patience and precision — but the results speak for themselves.

01

Concentrated

Low yields from stressed vines in free-draining soils produce fruit with remarkable depth and intensity — wines that say something.

02

Textured

The interplay of warm days and cold nights builds natural structure. Each variety develops its own mouthfeel — from the silky weight of Pinot Gris to the fine tannins of Pinot Noir.

03

Complex

Age-worthy wines with layered aromatics and evolving flavour profiles. There's always something more to discover in the glass.

04

Expressive

A true sense of place in every bottle. North Canterbury has a distinct voice — and our wines carry it faithfully from vineyard to table.

Waipara Valley,
at its heart

Dunnolly Estate sits in the Waipara Valley, one of North Canterbury's most celebrated sub-regions. The Teviotdale Hills to the north shelter the valley from cold southerly winds, creating a warm, sheltered microclimate that extends the growing season and allows our varieties to ripen fully and evenly.

Peter Parish chose this land thirty years ago for a reason — the soils, the aspect, the climate all pointed to something special. Every vintage since has confirmed that instinct.

"North Canterbury is home. The terroir, the community, the sense of connection to the land — it makes it special."

— Nicky Parish, Winemaker
