Dad & I are so excited to announce that we have four new wines that have just gone live in the USA!
Te Pae in Maori translates to Gathering. We have used these words to describe a “Gathering of Fruits”. Te Pae is an exciting new blend made especially for the United States Angels.
Before harvest, I spent a lot of time thinking about how I could marry the perfect varieties to make an exciting and crowd pleasing wine. After a little trial and error, we blended together 75% Sauvignon Blanc & 25% Pinot Gris. The Sauvignon Blanc, gives this wine it’s tropical notes and fine acidity. The Pinot Gris, enhances the palate weight and adds complexity. This wine has been made to be slightly off dry, giving the palate volume and balancing the lovely acidity which is classic of New Zealand White Wines.
This is the perfect sipper to share with friend and family. The 2019 Te Pae will be beautiful paired with freshly BBQ’ed seafood such as prawns or Green Lipped mussels, leafy green salads and fresh bread. Scrummy!
Back for its fourth vintage we are delighted to have produced this wine for you all. After having such an extremely hot and dry summer, the fruit ripened fast. Dad & I chose to pick the fruit this year a little earlier than we would have normally to ensure that we could preserve those lovely pear drop aromas.
Pure pear drop, hints of citrus and ripe stone fruit. This wine is an aromatic bombshell. The palate is in perfect balance, complimented by a refined mouthfeel and moreish texture. I recently had some good friend to dinner, we enjoyed our 2019 Pinot Gris with a spicy Roast Duck Red Curry and fluffy Jasmine Rice. It was divine!
Dunnolly grows two different clones of Pinot Noir – Clone 777 & 10/5. The 777 which is approximately 25% of blend and 10% which is 75% of blend. The 777 is elegant with delicate tannins that oozes bright raspberries and ripe cherry aromas. The 10/5 is structured, with dark aromas such as black doris plum and red currents. These clones marry well in the glass.
Raspberries, dark cherry and spice. The nose is elegant and full which develops in the glass over time. The palate shows natural sweetness balanced by the warmth of new French Oak.
We tried this wine recently with a gorgeous Beef Ragu, garlic potatoes and steamed greens. It was marvelous!
The wine would be perfectly suitable to any red meat dish, as well as looking great with overtly ripe Blue Cheese and oatmeal crackers.
Over the last three years, Dad & I has spent a lot of time, money and effort to improve the quality of our Chardonnay. In 2017 we increased the MLF percentage to enhance complexity and in 2018 we have increased our new oak percentage from 20% to 30%. This increased investment in new oak is designed to be subtle and integrate well into the wine - bringing a sense of warmth and opulence to the nose and palate. The 2018 Reserve Chardonnay spent 10months in new oak before being bottled in March 2019.
Apricot and nectarine with warm new French Oak. The palate has a refreshing acidity, oozing ripe fruit characters that are balanced with subtle natural fruit sweetness. This wine goes with loads of different food pairing. My absolute favourite would be a seafood paella loaded with New Zealand Green Lip Mussels, clams, snapper and calamari. Absolutely divine to share with friends and family.
